In this artcile, methane catalytic oxidation was studied over the Ni/MgAl 2 O 4  catalysts with different weight percentages of nickel oxide synthesized by a simple solid-state mechanochemical preparation method. The Mesoporous nanocrystalline Ni/MgAl 2 O 4  catalysts with high specific surface area displayed high catalytic activity in methane catalytic oxidation. The obtained results demonstrated that the increment in Ni loading improved the CH 4  conversion and CO 2  selectivity. The influence of O 2 :CH 4  molar ratio and gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) was investigated and the obtained results indicated that the increase in feed ratio and GHSV enhanced the CH 4  conversion. Moreover, the incarease in calcination temperature from 500 to 700°C had a negative influence on the catalytic activity because of the formation of agglomerated particles on the calcined catalysts at higher temperatures.
