The following abstracts were presented at the Millennium Meeting of the British Association of Endocrine Surgeons held in conjunction with the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons and the Swedish Association of Endocrine Surgeons, in London and Lille on 22–25 May 2000. The British Journals of Surgery prize was awarded to the abstract entitled ‘Total parathyroidectomy in patients with chronic renal failure’ by R. N. Saunders, R. Karoo, H. Y. Tiong, G.J. Murphy, M.
