Properties pertaining to thermodynamical local stability ofReissner-Nordstr\"om black holes surrounded by quintessence as well asadiabatic invariance, adiabatic charging and a generalized Smarr formula arediscussed. Limits for the entropy, temperature and electric potential ensuringstability of canonical ensembles are determined by the classicalthermodynamical and Poincar\'e methods. By the latter approach we show thatmicrocanonical ensembles (isolated black holes) are stable. Two geometricalapproaches lead to determine the same states corresponding to second orderphase transitions.
