Since studies have found the liver enzyme alpha-glutathione S-transferase (alphaGST) to be a marker of hepatic injury after hemorrhagic shock, alphaGST also may serve as a sensitive indicator of hepatocellular damage during the early stage of polymicrobial sepsis.
